What to Bring
- Hiking boots (broken in)
- Backpack (comfortable and properly fitted)
- Water bottles or hydration reservoir (at least 2 liters)
- Snacks (energy bars, trail mix, fruit)
- Sunscreen (high SPF)
- Hat and sunglasses
- First-aid kit (with blister treatment)
- Map and compass/GPS
- Rain gear (even if the forecast is clear)
- Layers of clothing (moisture-wicking base layer, fleece or insulated jacket)
Safety Guidelines
- Stay on marked trails and avoid shortcuts.
- Be aware of your surroundings and potential hazards (wildlife, unstable terrain).
- Inform someone of your hiking plans, including your route and expected return time.
- Check the weather forecast before you go and be prepared for changing conditions.
- Carry a fully charged cell phone, but be aware that cell service may be limited in some areas.
- Pace yourself and take breaks as needed.
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Be respectful of the environment and pack out everything you pack in.
- In case of emergency, know how to signal for help.
